Do you know what a river pig is?

   During the logging boom in the 1800s there was no large machinery to move logs like there is today. There was just hardworking men, so when they fell trees they would use Horses, Mules and Ox’s to pull logs down to near by rivers. One problem though with lots of big logs moving through the river at once it was common for the logs to get piled up and create a giant blockage. So came the “River pigs”, There jobs were to run across thousands of logs floating down the river and keep them from getting bunched together, not to mention keeping on there feet and not going for a unplanned swim in the ice cold river below. Now we have big machines moving sometimes thousands of logs a hour with one man operating it. Sometimes its nice to take a step back and realize how far we have come. I certainly wouldn’t want to have there Job!

All that work and years of advancements wasn’t for nothing though because now we get to go on a website and pick what piece of beautiful figured maple we want to build our next project with.
